DIY Bitters with FIG Drinks!

Hey home bartenders! You’ve got the liquor, you’ve made the syrup and the fresh juice. How do you season your best creations? It’s time to make your own bitters. We will discuss the history of bitters, while we enjoy a tasty libation!

Then we will combine all the spices/fruits/bitter botanicals for you to make bitters at home. You will have a choice of orange bitters or aromatic bitters. You can take these packets home to soak in high-proof alcohol. With a little time and patience, you will be serving your friends homemade bitters.

We will provide all the fixins’ for bitters (minus the alcohol), along with a one-ounce dropper bottle, so you can serve them later.

We recommend you have an open-mouth jar (1L-1.5L) to steep your bitters at home.

Registration is $25 per person, and includes all supplies and use of bar tools needed for cocktail making.  Please register by Friday, April 1, 2016.  Class is limited to 30 guests.

Registration available via Brown Paper Tickets,

Al Klopper is a tenured professional who has over two decades experience making cocktails. He is the Beverage Director for FIG Catering and FIG Drinks.

Everything you ever wanted to know about recycling and composting... but were afraid to ask!  Do you want to learn how to reduce what you are putting in the landfill in your everyday life? The experts from Collective Resource will take the confusion out of recycling and composting!   They will review easy steps to "precycling" and planning that will really make a difference. Come join us for a lively, interactive evening!

The workshop is free and open to the public.  Please RSVP by Monday, March 7, 2016.

RSVP available via Brown Paper Tickets,

Collective Resource, Inc. (CRI) began when Erlene Howard, an Evanston resident, became interested in composting but couldn't find a good place to do it in her condo environment. Howard, a bookkeeper by trade, is a frequent consumer of organic fruits and vegetables. She was inspired to start a food scrap recycling service when she realized that, if composting were made more convenient, more people would do it.

Her first pickups started with three customers, using her Toyota Camry for collection. Howard's customer base has since grown to over 325 residential and 75 commercial customers. The company now uses three cargo vans to collect pre- and post-consumer food scraps weekly in an area that extends from the South Loop, north to Lake Forest, along the North Shore.

During the first six months of business, Collective Resource collected a single ton. Now they collect at least that amount every day, averaging 20 tons per week.
